REPORT: Eagles sign former 4th-round pick to bolster depth at a position of need

The Eagles have made another depth move for the offseason. This time it comes in the form of a six-foot linebacker from the University of Miami. It has been reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the Eagles have agreed to a one-year contract with linebacker Shaquille Quarterman. The former Jacksonville Jaguar has finally found a home after working out for the Bears and the Dolphins over the last month and working out for the Eagles back in May.

Quarterman comes at a time where the opportunities are endless. The Eagles’ linebacker room is still sorting itself out and could need another body with Oren Burks being limited due to his knee injury. Whether this is just another camp body for the time being or if Quarterman has a shot to make it onto the Eagles’ roster remains to be seen.

At 26 years old, Shaquille Quarterman has played only four years in the NFL but has never started. He was drafted by the Jaguars in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft but seemed to have played himself off of their roster as he never met their expectations.

Quarterman joins an interesting Eagles’ LB group that is headlined by Devin White, Nakobe Dean, and Zach Baun. Baun and White have been the aforementioned starters for most of the camp as Dean has yet to stand out. While the battle for a starting role looks to be a triple-threat match, the Eagles can use Quarterman as a depth piece or even on special teams.

The special teams group has gotten significantly better over the last couple of years and could always use another body to continue the trend. While it’s too early to say how things will shape out at the end of camp, it will still be interesting to see how this linebacker core looks at the start of the season.

How do you feel about this Eagles’ signing?
