Allen Iverson’s rumored retirement ceremony now has a rumored date.
According to ESPN, the former Sixers star will officially announce his retirement from the NBA at the team’s home opener, Oct. 30, at the Wells Fargo Center. The Sixers host the world champion Miami Heat that day at 7 p.m.
Heat star LeBron James will have a front-row seat after proclaiming his affection for Iverson the other day in an ESPN the Magazine article.
“You could never question his heart. Ever,” James told the magazine. “He gave it his all. A.I. was like my second-favorite player growing up, after M.J. [Michael Jordan].”
Iverson, 38, hangs it up as the sixth-best player in terms of points per game, at 26.7. He trails Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, LeBron James, Elgin Baylor and Jerry West. He was the 1997 Rookie of the Year and 2001 MVP.
Iverson last played for the Sixers in 2010. He’ll be eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2015.
