Report: Joel Embiid’s surgery was successful, is a return on the cards?

Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid, the reigning MVP, has officially undergone a procedure for the left meniscus injury he suffered in the Sixers’ 119-107 loss to the Golden State Warriors on January 30th. With so much speculation about the big man’s treatment options, it is comforting to hear that his first re-evaluation will be in around four weeks.

With just over eight weeks left in the season, the Sixers appear optimistic that the All-Star center will still be able to contribute to a championship run. Should Embiid return to the Sixers, Philadephia would certainly become one of the better teams in the NBA Playoffs. With the trade deadline looming, only time will tell what team Joel Embiid could return to this season. The Sixers are 4-11 on the season without Joel Embiid and have needed some more firepower on their roster in the past two losses to the Brooklyn Nets and the Dallas Mavericks.

‘The Process’ has had a dominant season that has been hampered by injuries. In thirty-four games this season, Embiid has averaged 35.3 points per game on 53.3/36.6/88.3 shooting splits. He was also averaging 11.3 rebounds, 1.8 blocks, 1.1 steals, and a career-high 5.7 assists per game.

Joel Embiid was the front-runner for MVP for much of the season, including a 70-point game against the San Antonio Spurs. Despite Joel missing out on MVP this season, he was still having the most dominant offensive season ever in my entire lifetime. Hopefully, Embiid will be able to return before the playoffs and return to his MVP form to make a run at that ever-elusive Larry O’Brien Trophy.
