Report: Sixers held discussions with free agent Haywood Highsmith

The Sixers kicked free agency off with a bang, signing nine-time All-Star Paul George, re-signing All-Star Tyrese Maxey, and a few other moves to build the roster. Now that free agency has calmed down, Philly is working to round out the roster with pieces that fit their new big-three.

The team is in search of three-and-D wings who can also play either of the forward spots. They have been connected to a few names still on the trade market, including Net’s forward Dorian Finney-Smith.

One name that has recently been mentioned on the free agency front is former Sixer Haywood Highsmith, who most recently played with the Miami Heat. Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer mentioned in his latest article that “[Philadelphia has] also been in discussions with Miami Heat free agent and former Sixer Haywood Highsmith as a free agent option.”

Highsmith was a key cog for the Miami Heat last season, playing 66 games and starting 26 of them, including games in the play-in and playoffs. He averaged 6.1 points per game and shot a career-high 39.6 percent from three on about three attempts a game.

The Sixers could be looking at Highsmith to come in and either start at one of the forward spots with Paul George or be a key member off the bench that you can rely on to play defense, hustle, and shoot open corner threes.

Highsmith would ideally increase his three-point volume in Philly if he were to sign, especially in lineups with Joel Embiid. With the market at a standstill, Daryl Morey could look to pounce on a glue guy to help round out his roster of stars.
