Report: Sixers to sign Corey Brewer to another 10-day contract

After a solid first 10-day stint with the Philadelphia 76ers, it seems that Corey Brewer will be getting another chance.

According to Keith Pompey of Philly.com, the veteran swingman will be signed to a second 10-day contract on Friday. It does not come as a surprise to see Brewer back for another week as he has played great over the last five games for Philly.

Earlier this week, the veteran forward had his best game against James Harden and the Houston Rockets.

Brewer, who was starting for the injured Jimmy Butler, played solid defense on the reigning league MVP and scored 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field.

The Sixers defeated the Rockets 121-93, but the talk after the game was all about Brewer.

“I think he was being a pest. His energy was great,” said second-year point guard Ben Simmons about the 12-year vet. “Ever since he’s gotten with our team, I think he’s just been great. He’s been great. He’s been a good teammate; good person and we’ve loved having him around. He’s been tremendous.”

Along those same lines, third-year center Joel Embiid thought Brewer did a good job defending Harden.

“Oh, Corey was great. You need that type of guy on the team,” he said.

“You know that’s what we’ve been trying to figure out, you know just learning how to play with each other. You need that type of guy that’s going to come out and be like, ‘Okay, I’m going to take out the best player on the other team,’ and I felt like he did a pretty good job.”

Brewer continued his solid play on Wednesday against the Spurs. Starting again for the injured Butler, he scored nine points on 3-of-7 shooting from the field and added two assists.

After that game, Embiid gave Brewer a ringing endorsement, saying he should stick around.

If Brewer can make it through his second 10-day contract with flying colors, then he will probably be signed for the rest of the season. For a team such as the Sixers, who are searching the trade market for extra depth, the addition of Brewer has surprisingly been a blessing in disguise.
