This much we know: DeSean Jackson has fired agent Drew Rosenhaus.
The story was first reported by Philly Mag Sunday night, then confirmed by USA Today Monday morning.
Immediately, speculation ran wild that Jackson’s real motive was to ditch Rosenhaus and sign with Jay-Z’s newly formed agency, Roc Nation Sports. The agency is facing some legal troubles from the NFLPA after violating the union’s “runner rule.” Jay-Z isn’t a certified agent — and he doesn’t want to be — but an Instagram photo of Jay-Z with Geno Smith before he signed has sparked a mini-controversy.
Jackson, of course, already owns his own record label, Jaccpot Records, and has been known to show up at album release parties for many famous rapper friends, including Meek Mill. Considering Jackson recently signed a five-year, $51 million, the football part of it seems to be secondary. This appears to be a move to promote Jackson’s brand and record label. Jackson reportedly stopped paying fees he owes to Rosenhaus months ago and has been telling teammates that he is joining Roc Nation Sports.
Representatives for Jackson would not confirm Jackson’s switch. However, under NFLPA rules, a player must wait five days after filing agent-termination paperwork to even talk to other agents, let alone ink with one.
As always, stay tuned.
