Reports: Eagles’ Sam Bradford demands a trade, will not report to camp

Is this part of the Eagles plan? Or a thorn in their attempt to mold Carson Wentz into their next franchise quarterback?

Adam Schefter reported just a few minutes ago on twitter that the”Eagles have been informed Sam Bradford wants to be traded and he will not be showing up for their off-season program any longer, per source.”

Bradford, who was clearly cited as the Birds No. 1 quarterback this upcoming season — but also clearly slighted when they traded five draft picks to more up to No. 2 to select Wentz — is guaranteed$22 million over the next two seasons and has even more money included in a third contract year as well.

He was until last week expected to be backed up harmoniously (or as conflict-free as is possible in the NFL) by another overpaid QB in Chase Daniel.

Schefter’s reporting is more often right than it is wrong, and if it proves to be accurate the Eagles have even more drama to deal with as the draft nears Thursday.

Two contending teams still need a starting quarterback, the Jets and Broncos. Perhaps the Birds will be able to get some draft pick relief from a trade partner (likely for a third day selection).

However, moving Bradford does eliminate their best opportunity to be competitive in 2016 and also removes a valuable, former Heisman-winning teacher for Wentz.
