Reports: Flyers looking at Tim Thomas

Tim Thomas helped the Bruins win a Stanley Cup in 2011 before sitting out last season.

The Flyers are reportedly interested in former Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas. The interest is mutual, too, according to CSNPhilly.com. The 39-year-old Thomas is set to become an unrestricted free agent this Friday (July 5).

Thomas sat out the 2012-13 season after being traded to the New York Islanders. He was an integral part of the 2011 Boston Stanley Cup championship team, but he hasn’t suited up since the 2012 playoffs. Thomas is a two-time Vezina Trophy winner.

Thomas came under fire in Boston for voicing his political views loudly and proudly. He refused to tag along with the Bruins on their official White House visit after winning the Cup because he disagrees with Obama’s politics. The move paved the way for his departure from Beantown.

Thomas posted the following message on Facebook at the time of the incident: “Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL.”
