Return to the promised land likely for Phils

No one can argue that we are in the midst of the Golden Era of Phillies baseball.

One of the most inept franchises in MLB history has gone to the playoffs three straight years, won one World Series and lost another. But how long can this era go?

This year’s roster will be virtually intact next season and the Phillies should have some extra cash as they get Brett Myers, Adam Eaton, Geoff Jenkins and Jim Thome off the books.

Out of the core, Pedro Feliz is the only position player unlikely to be in a Phils uniform next season. The team announced last night that it had declined Feliz’s 2010 option, but will keep the door open on bringing him back.

Or maybe Ruben Amaro Jr. will choose to upgrade his pitching staff. Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels and J.A. Happ are locks to return, with Joe Blanton and Jamie Moyer likely to fill out the rotation until the arrival of uber-prospect Kyle Drabek.

In 2011 will Amaro let Werth and Victorino walk and replace them with prospects Michael Taylor and Dominic Brown? Can he keep Jimmy Rollins?

Those questions can wait. For now, Phils fans can enjoy this era while it lasts.
