Rider killed, man critically injured following separate motorcycle crashes

A pair of motorcycle crashes left a rider dead and another seriously injured over the weekend in Philadelphia.

Police said Ramon Santiago, 22, of Allentown, was riding when he collided with an ice cream truck just before 10 p.m. Saturday at the corner of H Street and Hunting Park Avenue in Juniata.

He was thrown from the bike and taken to Temple University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at around 11:45 p.m., according to the PPD.

A 17-year-old boy was driving the ice cream truck, according to authorities.

Four hours later, at around 2 a.m. Sunday, a 42-year-old motorcyclist was going at “a high rate of speed” when he hit a 24-year-old male pedestrian on the 1700 block of Cherry Street in Center City, the PPD said in an incident report.

Authorities said the rider was hospitalized in critical condition with bleeding to his brain. The pedestrian was taken to Jefferson University Hospital with a head laceration, investigators said.

There was no word on possible charges, and police said both crashes remain under investigation.
