Romney cruises to victory in Pa. primary

With his only real competition virtually out of the race, Republican Mitt Romney cruised to victory in Pennsylvania’s primary election.

The former Massachussetts governor had 56 percent of the vote with over 56 percent of precincts reporting. Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum was second with 20 percent, Ron Paul came in third with 13.5 percent and Newt Gingrich captured 11 percent.

Romney has all but locked up the Republican nomination for president. Santorum suspended his campaign two weeks ago after losing his leads in the polls for Pennsylvania’s primary. He has not endorsed Romney, but has said he’s “all in” against President Obama.

Despite the anticipated landslide, Romney still made a campaign stop in Delaware County on Monday with freshman Florida Senator Marco Rubio. Paul also visited Philadelphia last weekend to fire up supporters, but the Tea Party darling has run a constant third.

Pennsylvania figures to be an important state in the November election. Obama carried the commonwealth in 2008, helping him to victory against Sen. John McCain.
