Rum’s the word this August at Cuba Libre.

The vibrant Old City locale is celebrating National Rum Day and Month with a series of tasty and spirited events.

All of August, Philadelphians will be able to indulge in three $17 rum flights, each featuring three 1-ounce pours of rum. Regularly priced from $22-$30 the reduced price flights include Don Q, Bacardi, and Brinley Shipwreck brands.

The El Coqui option spans Oak Barrel Spiced, Reserva 7 and Gran Reserva XO; the Facundo’s includes Añejo Cuatro, Reserva Ocho and Gran Reserva Diez; plus the St. Kitt’s Shipwreck boasts Coconut, Mango and Vanilla.

For National Rum Day specifically (Aug. 16), from noon to 4 p.m., the restaurant will also offer half off all rums/rum drinks throughout the restaurant (excluding the $17 rum flights).

The specials are included at all Cuba Libre locations (which spans Atlantic City, Orlando and Washington D.C.), but the City of Brotherly Love‘s location happens to be the original for the brand. The Restaurant & Rum Bar officially opened its doors in 2000, and the locale has seen an assortment of chefs, specials and unique dishes pass through.

The restaurant’s name translates to “a free Cuba,” and the brand’s mission is to provide an “escape” to Havana through food, beverage and entertainment experiences that celebrate the Cuban people and culture. Founding Chef Guillermo Pernot — a two-time James Beard award-winner — recently retired in 2023. That dedication isn’t just singular to the kitchen and bar either — the atmosphere itself is a love letter to the country with colors, bright lights, and an indoor dining room mimicking an outdoor courtyard somewhere in the Pearl of the Antilles.

While at this energetic locale, diners can also order from the full-time dinner and brunch menu. Highlights span crab guacamole, rum-pineapple glazed shrimp skewers, paella, huevos benedict, chocolate banana bread pudding and a smattering of mojito options (think creamsicle, grilled pineapple, mango, plush plum and more).
