The drama never seems to lag far behind Odell Beckham Jr.
Social-media speculation fueled by his father claiming Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield refused to throw Beckham the ball sparked negotiations between the superstar wide receiver and the Browns on a split that eventually came to fruition last week.
Beckham restructured his contract with the Browns — approved by the NFL and NFLPA — that will allow Beckham to go on waivers Monday.
He can be claimed by another team by 4 p.m. ET the following day.
It brings an end to a disappointing stint for the AFC North team after Beckham was dealt in a blockbuster by the New York Giants in 2019.
As one of the game’s most prolific receivers in New York, Beckham had just two 100-yard games in 29 outings with the Browns while posting 17 catches for 232 yards and zero touchdowns in six games this season.
If Beckham clears waivers, which is believed to be the most likely scenario, he could sign with any team — though they’ll have to fit his $7.25 million on their books.
As it stands, nine teams have $7.25 million in cap space: the Jacksonville Jaguars, Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, Los Angeles Chargers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Washington Football Team.
But Beckham wants to go to a contending team, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, which could see teams alter their roster to fit his contract.
