SEPTA employees win $172M Powerball jackpot

SEPTA officials have confirmed that 48 lucky employees won the $173 million Powerball jackpot Wednesday night.

The winning ticket was purchased from the Newsstand at the Gallery located at 9th and Market streets. The ticket matched all five white balls, 04-25-29-34-43, plus the red Powerball, 29. The jackpot has a cash value of $107 million, which would translate to about $2 million apiece.

SEPTA issued a statement saying that at this time, the group wishes to remain anonymous. The employees work in departments throughout SEPTA Headquarters and is made up of people of different ranks and positions, including both union and administration/management.

The newsstand which sold the winning ticket will receive a $100,000 bonus.

Another Powerball ticket worth $2 million from Wednesday’s drawing was sold at Giant Eagle in Westmoreland County. The ticket correctly matched all five white balls but not the red Powerball. The retailer will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling this winning ticket.

The next Powerball jackpot drawing will be Saturday. The jackpot returns to an estimated $40 million annuity and $24.9 million cash prize.

Wednesday’s drawing marks the 15th time Pennsylvania has sold jackpot-winning tickets since joining Powerball.
