Police arrested a man Tuesday night for allegedly riding the Broad Street line with two guns, including an AK-47, ammunition and drugs.
SEPTA spokeswoman Heather Redfern that a woman riding the Broad Street subway Tuesday evening noticed a man traveling northbound with a weapon sticking out of his bag. She exited the train around 5:30 p.m. and alerted SEPTA police.
SEPTA officers stopped the train at the Fairmount station, where they boarded and escorted the suspect off. After he consented to a search of his bag, they opened it up and found a partially-dismantled AK-47 with a bayonet and a 40-round clip, a .38 revolver with six rounds in the chamber, 25 to 30 pills of the narcotic painkiller Percocet, an ounce of what is believed to be marijuana and $716, Redfern said.
The man, identified by police as Jermal Ponds, 28, was arrested and is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
