SEPTA to offer free subway rides to Eagles fans on opening day

Heading to the Eagles opener against the Browns in two weeks?

You should probably take the subway.

Parking is costing upwards of $30 at the stadium and, thanks to Miller Lite and the Eagles, a ride to and from the Linc on the Broad Street Line on Sept. 11 will be free between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.

The event is also meant to help decrease the number of drunken driving incidents.

“The Free Rides program is a great opportunity for Eagles fans to ride the Broad Street Line during our home opener,” Eagles presidentDon Smolenski said. “The Eagles encourage fans to stay safe and make smart choices on game day by riding the Miller Lite Free Rides on SEPTA.”

Just three seasons ago, a three car crash killed two and injured seven others after a game in South Philly.

“Even through all the cheering, as a transit system, our top priority is always the safety and security of our customers,” said Jeff Knueppel, SEPTA general manager, “We encourage Eagles fans to take advantage of the free rides from Miller Lite and let SEPTA be their designated driver.”

The Eagles kick off their 2016 season at 1 p.m. on Sept. 11 at Lincoln Financial Field.
