Dozens of injuries were reported early Tuesday after a commuter train slammed into a parked train at a terminal in suburban Philadelphia, according to transit officials.
SEPTA has handed an investigation into the incident over to the National Transportation Safety Board.
An incoming Norristown High Speed train hit the stationary train at the Upper Darby 69th Street Terminal just after 12 a.m. at the 69th Street Station that is just outside Philly’s border in Upper Darby, according to Heather Redfern, a SEPTA spokesperson.
All 41 passengers aboard the train and one SEPTA employee were injured. The parked train was not occupied at the time of the incident.
“There was blood everywhere,” one commuter said to CBS Philly. “There was this driver all banged up and there was this one girl bleeding out of her face pretty bad.”
Redfern said a total of 42 people had suffered injuries, although none are life-threatening.
The driver of the train was treated and released from the hospital. Trains ran normally throughout the day.
The cause of the crash has not yet officially been determined.
