Seven shot, one stabbed in Philly

Seven people were injured in shootings Tuesday and early Wednesday morning in Philadelphia, and a man is in critical condition after being stabbed, authorities said.

Overall violent crime is down this year by about 3 percent, but shootings have been trending upward, police statistics show.

A total of 841 people have been shot this year through June 28, a 26.3 percent increase compared to the same time in 2019. Shooting incidents, which include times when shots are fired and no one is hit, are up 55 percent.

At around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers rushed a man to the hospital after he was shot in the head in a McDonald’s parking lot on the 7500 block of City Avenue in Overbrook Park, police said.

The victim was listed in critical condition at Lankenau Medical Center.

Two men were injured when shots were fired at 9:45 p.m. on the 1700 block of W. Dauphin Street in North Philadelphia.

Police said one of the victims, a 25-year-old man, was standing nearby on the 2300 block of N. Colorado Street when he heard the gunfire and realized he had been hit in the right calf.

A friend dropped him off at Temple University Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, authorities said.

Somebody also dropped off a 29-year-old man who had been shot in the chest in the same area. The driver left before police arrived, authorities said.

He was immediately taken in for surgery, and there was no word on his condition.

Not far from the scene of that shooting, two men were wounded after shots rang out at 11:30 p.m. on the 2500 block of N. 9th Street, police said.

A 34-year-old man was struck in the right shoulder, and the bullet ended up lodged in his jaw, investigators said. A 22-year-old man who was outside his grandmother’s house heard the shots and discovered he had been hit in his right hand, shoulder and buttocks.

Both men were listed in stable condition.

Less than 15 minutes later, a 25-year-old man was walking on the 2800 block of Jasper Street in Kensington when a man shot at him from inside a silver sedan, police said.

The victim was hit in his upper right thigh. He was transported to the hospital, where he is in stable condition, according to authorities.

An hour later, at around 12:45 a.m., police said a 19-year-old man was shot in the stomach during an attempted robbery on the 3000 block of N. Front Street in Fairhill. Officers rushed him to Temple Hospital, where he was in critical but stable condition.

Investigators described the suspect as a Black or Hispanic man who was wearing a maroon hooded sweatshirt with a white zipper, black sweatpants and white sneakers.

No arrests have been made in connection with any of the shootings.

Police said a man is also in critical condition after being stabbed at least once in the chest at around 2:15 a.m. on the 3500 block of Kensington Avenue in Harrowgate, police said. Detectives continue to search for a suspect.
