Shane Montgomery autopsy results expected Monday, funeral announced

Shane Montgomery’s cause of death will be announced Monday, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

The search for the 21-year-old West Chester senior ended Saturday when the Roxborough resident’s body was pulled from the Schuylkill River just after noon.

Montgomery’s viewing will be held on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again on Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. before the funeral mass. All will take place at St. John the Baptist Church at 146 Rector St., according to the Daily News.

Montgomery’s parents identified the body the Garden State Underwater Recovery Unit pulled from the river behind the Manayunk Brew Pub on Main Street as their son. He was found a half-mile from where he first went missing on Thanksgiving morning.

In a statement, police said “Our most sincere and heartfelt condolences goes out to the family,” according to Officer Tanya Little, a police spokeswoman.

“Today we have done what we promised. We found and brought Shane home,” the Montgomery family said in a statement. “We want to thank everyone for their support, prayers, and love and ask that they continue to pray for our family at this trying time.”

Police spent more than a month searching for the Roxborough resident, who vanished after leaving Kildare’s Irish Pub around 2 a.m. on Nov. 27.

Authorities believed Montgomery was in the river after security cameras from a Main Street nail salon captured footage of Montgomery heading toward and then walking across the towpath that crosses the Manayunk Canal the morning of his disappearance. The towpath, which leads to a parking lot, sits behind the salon.
