Shelley out, Prongs working way back

The Flyers battled the Capitals last night with a chance to all but secure the East’s No. 1 seed in the Stanley Cup playoffs. But, before they took the ice, they got some bad news.

Enforcer Jody Shelley is expected to miss four weeks after fracturing the orbital bone on the left side of his face. He is scheduled to undergo surgery tomorrow, according to Flyers GM Paul Holmgren. Shelley ranks second on the team in penalty minutes (127).

The Flyers recalled Danny Syvret from Adirondack to take his roster spot. Syvret was acquired from Anaheim on Nov. 21.

Meanwhile, Chris Pronger was on the ice for a second straight day, wearing the yellow, no-contact practice jersey. He was seen stickhandling, shooting and passing as he attempts to rebound from surgery to repair a fractured hand.

Sergei Bobrovsky started in net last night against the Capitals, but that game ended too late.
