Shooting leaves one dead, three in serious condition

A man was dead and three people were fighting for their lives following a shooting Thursday afternoon in Overbrook Park, police said.

Shots rang out at around 3 p.m. on the 1400 block of N. 76th Street, and all four victims were taken to Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood.

A 24-year-old man died minutes after the shooting, and police said the other victims — a 30-year-old man, a 19-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy — were in “extremely critical” condition at the time Metro went to press.

No arrests have been made, authorities said.

A 21-year-old man was shot to death early Thursday morning, and six other people were wounded in shootings Wednesday night.

Officers were called to the corner of Easton Road and Lowber Street in East Mount Airy just before 12:30 a.m. Thursday for a report of gunshots.

They found the 21-year-old victim in the driver’s seat of a gray Honda, police said. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

Authorities said a 35-year-old man was taken to Episcopal Hospital just before 8:15 p.m. Wednesday to be treated for a suspected drug overdose. It was later discovered that he had been shot in the right thigh on the 300 block of E. Clearfield Street in Kensington. Police said he is expected to survive.

Four people were hospitalized after gunfire erupted at around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on the 800 block of E. Allegheny Avenue, also in Kensington.

A man in his late 20 or early 30s and another man in his late 40s or early 50s were each shot once in the left arm. Both are expected to recover, police said. The third victim, a man in his late 20s or early 30s, was shot multiple times throughout his body and listed in critical condition at Temple University Hospital.

Officers apprehended a 37-year-old man with a firearm at the scene. He had a gunshot wound to his right knee and was hospitalized in stable condition, according to authorities.

In Southwest Philadelphia, a 29-year-old woman was shot once in the left ankle at around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday on the 2100 block of S. Simpson Street, police said. Officers took her to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, and she is expected to survive.

Investigators said she knew the shooter, but that person has not been arrested.

Woman killed in Boulevard crash

A 26-year-old woman died in a crash early Thursday morning on Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia.

Police said Anastasiya Moskvina, of Huntingdon Valley, was driving at around 3 a.m. in the southbound inner lanes on the 8900 block of the Boulevard when her car jumped the curb and hit a tree in the median.

Her car caught fire, and a passerby pulled Moskvina from the wreckage, police said. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.
