Shootings leave 4 dead, 8 wounded

A mass shooting in North Philadelphia left a man dead and five other people injured, and three other men were killed in separate incidents Monday and Tuesday, police said.

Gunshots erupted just after 2:15 p.m. Tuesday near the corner of Broad Street and Chew Avenue in the Fern Rock neighborhood of the city.

Steven Jones, 26, who lived in the area, was struck several times in the chest, and he died just before 3 p.m. at Einstein Medical Center, according to authorities.

Four other men, ranging in age from 19 to 25, were wounded. Their injuries are not expected to be life-threatening, police said. A 28-year-old woman was also hospitalized in stable condition with a gunshot wound to her right shoulder.

Early Tuesday morning, just after 2:15 a.m., a 37-year-old man was shot nine times — in the chin, left arm and left shoulder — on the 2200 block of Chadwick Street in North Philadelphia, authorities said.

He was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he died at around 3 a.m., according to police.

In South Philadelphia, a 35-year-old man was hospitalized after being shot in the left leg just after 11:15 a.m. Tuesday on the 2500 block of W. Passyunk Avenue, authorities said.
