Shows to see in Philly this weekend and beyond

Start your musical weekend with a classic holiday tradition, move into rowdy brass, and finish indie.

The Philly Pops: I’ll Be Home for Christmas Spectacular

Friday through Dec. 22

Kimmel Center

300 S. Broad St.

From $32,Kimmelcenter.org

Conductor David Charles Abell returns for a third year to lead The Philly Pops’ Christmas program. Honoring military and first responders, the selection features guest vocalist Lisa Vroman, known for playing Christine in Broadway’s “Phantom of the Opera,” as well as a choir and holiday sing-a-longs.

Miley Cyrus &Her Dead Petz

Saturday, 8 p.m.

Electric Factory

421 N. Seventh St.

$70, Electricfactory.info

The befuddling addition of Dan Deacon as an opener for Miley Cyrus’s tour with Her Dead Petz — better known as rock band The Flaming Lips — strangely helps make some sense of her long, public transformation. Known for his electronic dance music, Deacon gives Miley some cred and amplifies her party-starting persona. This show is officially sold out, so you’ll have to go the resale route.

Rebirth Brass Band

Saturday, 8 p.m.

Underground Arts

1200 Callowhill St.

$25, Undergroundarts.org

The relentlessly touring and Grammy Award–winning Rebirth Brass Band is an explosive party brought to you by an awe-inspiring wall of sound. The many members of the New Orleans-based second line outfit have a polished, single-minded playing style that creates opportunity for raucous improvisation.

Deerhunter

Sunday, 8:30 p.m.

Union Transfer

1026 Spring Garden St.

$20, Utphilly.com

Atlanta’s Deerhunter is in town supporting their October release “Fading Frontier,” an entry both laconic and restless, lush and angular — the album of a band in a dreamy transition. Frontman Bradford Cox opens with his pared down solo act, Atlas Sound, a headliner in itself.
