PHILADELPHIA. It was in the wee hours Sunday morning when Kristin DiDonato got word in Atlantic City, N.J., that her brother, Eddie, had been shot in Old City.
“I was just shocked,” she said yesterday from his room at Thomas Jefferson Hospital. “He’s a fighter. He’s doing really well.”
According to reports, Eddie DiDonato Jr. and some friends — walking down Market Street after hanging out at Lucy’s Hat Shop — got into a confrontation with Gerald Ung around 2:30 a.m. Sunday after Ung bumped into one of them doing chin-ups on scaffolding. The shooting was caught on a surveillance camera outside Fox29.
In the video, Ung appears to point the gun at several people when DiDonato charges at him and tries to grab it. As DiDonato and Ung fall to the ground, the gun goes off multiple times, the muzzle blast visible in the footage. “He does think he’s invincible,” Kristin DiDonato said. “He is the type that would think he could take a gun from someone.”
Ung is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and other offenses. His arraignment is Jan. 25.
