Sixers draft night plans a mystery

Thursday’s draft is one piece of the Sixers’ offseason puzzle. As coach Doug Collins has said repeatedly, this team has some holes:

1. Scorer. With Lou Williams now an unrestricted free agent, Jodie Meeks a goner and Evan Turner proving to be more of a natural point guard, points are at a premium.

Natural scorers possibly available at No. 15 include athletic Washington swingman Terrence Ross and St. John’s freshman Moe Harkless.

2. Post rebounder/defender. If the Sixers want, they can bring back a rapidly declining Elton Brand for the final season of his contract. They could also dump him via the amnesty clause or use his expiring contract as a trade chip. Spencer Hawes is also an unrestricted free agent that could command significant attention on the open market, thanks to his intriguing size and skill set.

Rugged post players possibly available at No. 15 include medical risk Jared Sullinger and rail-thin UNC product John Henson.

3. Talent. Simply put, the Sixers aren’t nearly as talented as East rivals such as the Heat, Celtics, Bulls, Knicks or Pacers. They need a talent infusion at every position — except point guard.

If they choose to go with the best talent available at No. 15, possibilities include Baylor’s Perry Jones III and Kentucky leader Terrence Jones.
