Sixers look to even up record

Considering where the Sixers started, the .500 mark looks like a waterfall in the middle of the desert.

After a disastrous 3-13 start, they can even their record at 28-28 by winning their final two games before the All-Star break.

“I think it speaks volumes about what kind of people are on this team,” said coach Doug Collins yesterday. “We’ve got young guys who want to win. And as a coach, that’s all you could ever ask for.”

The quest to get to .500 will have to go through Memphis tonight and Houston tomorrow. Two weeks ago, the Sixers blew a 21-point, third-quarter lead to the Grizzlies. Elton Brand pointed to that game as a jolt to the Sixers’ system — since then, they have gone 6-2.

“It’s a good feeling, opportunity to be .500,” Brand said. “Not great, but it’s pretty good.”
