Sixers prep for life with no Williams

Lou Williams doesn’t start for the Sixers. But he often finishes for coach Doug Collins, especially “in the guts of the game.”

That’s why the hamstring pull that will sideline the point guard for at least the rest of the regular season is so concerning for the Sixers. In crunch time, Williams is often the go-to guy.

Williams told reporters after Monday’s practice that he has a “golf ball-sized knot” behind his leg. Evan Turner, who had fallen completely out of the rotation, is going to be leaned upon for backup point guard minutes.

Looking for depth, the Sixers also signed free agent guard Antonio Daniels. He’ll officially join the team today in Boston on a 10-day contract. Daniels was previously playing for the Texas Legends of the NBA’s Developmental League.

The Sixers, the East’s sixth seed, have just five games left in the regular season. Williams will rehab in the hopes of being ready for the playoffs.
