With just 18 games left for Philadelphia remaining in the season, every game matters now more than ever in catching up to the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. The Bucks currently hold the lead with Boston two games behind and Philadelphia four games behind. An out-of-conference win against the Wolves would go a long way.

Joel Embiid is coming off a 42-point performance against the Indiana Pacers and is looking to stay hot. His matchup against Rudy Gobert. Minnesota’s defensive efficiency rating with Gobert on the floor is 108.7, the worst in his career. Embiid should be able to use his larger frame and improved footwork to dominate Gobert one-on-one. With Karl Anthony Towns still out, the defensive rotation possibilities for Minnesota to counter Embiid will be limited.

P.J. Tucker and Tobias Harris will be out. Tucker would be the ideal matchup for the more developed, athletic Anthony Edwards, but those defensive duties will now likely go to De’Anthony Melton and Shake Milton. Tobias Harris’ 15.0 points a game would typically be missed at earlier points in the season, but with team chemistry starting to build, production can be from others as evidenced by the Sixers dropping 147 points yesterday against Indiana.

Tonight is a must-win for Philadelphia in the long run for taking the top of the East as their own. But with Minnesota looking to stay out of the play-in and in the playoffs, they won’t go down without a fight.
