March 2025 marks the one-year anniversary of the reopening of Sophie’s BBQ and Four Birds Distillery in Havertown.
Sophie’s BBQ, which opened in 2023, had not reached its first anniversary before a devastating fire forced the restaurant to close. Now, a year later, Sophie’s BBQ is celebrating its anniversary in style with brand-new dishes and events.
Owner and executive chef Greg Herman is hitting the ground running and looking to make up for lost time by broadening their menu and pushing beyond their usual boundaries.
“We are so lucky to be here and be doing what we love each and every day,” said Herman. “When we were in Ardmore, we were sold out and at capacity every single day. We moved to Havertown to expand and meet demand, with a space that gave us not just three times the room but also more room in the kitchen to grow the menu. We were just a few weeks into fully opening and a fire set us back nearly a year.”
“Our team didn’t even have a proper grand opening — and many in the neighborhood had barely had a chance to come try us out. When we opened a year later, it was a tough year of rebuilding and we needed to recoup our losses, Herman continued. “We hit the ground running with our traditional BBQ favorites and we haven’t sat down since.”
“As we approached our one-year anniversary of opening after the fire, it made sense to take a step back and get back to all the plans we had for this amazing space. We are so thrilled to expand and keep improving our BBQ menu — but we are really excited to also add other dishes to the menu and get a little more chefy in the kitchen. It is also finally the time to add new events, pairing dinners, and theme brunches. Everything we are announcing is just the start — we have lots of irons in the fire — including more new dishes, a new happy hour and some collaborations coming this spring and summer.”
What’s new at Sophie’s BBQ?
The menu’s new items include duck and waffles, bourbon-glazed salmon, grilled shrimp, BBQ bloomin onion, smoked french onion soup, chicken and waffles, banana pudding stuffed donuts, Elvis brownie sundae, and more.
As for their new events, Sophie’s will host a BBQ and Craft Cocktail Pairing Dinner on Tuesday, March 11, an Espresso Martini Day x St. Patrick’s Day Brunch on Saturday, March 15, St. Patrick’s weekend specials on Friday, March 14, through Sunday, March 16, an Easter Sunday Brunch on Sunday, April 20, and a Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday, May 11.
“Our goal for the menu expansion, the new elevated dishes, and the events is simple,” said Herman. “We wake up every day and aspire to be the best BBQ in the greater Philadelphia region. Moving forward, we are growing and expanding and want to not just be amazing BBQ, but we also now want to be the very best restaurant overall in Havertown and in our community. We want to do both and have it all — and we can’t wait to see what everyone thinks.”
Sophie’s BBQ has already been back a year, but now it’s better than ever. It has all you need to come out of your hibernation and start your spring off on the right foot.
