Talking about sports is as much a Philadelphia institution as watching the games are. And helping those in the City of Brotherly Love who need it is a Philadelphia institution as well.
Metro and WIP’s Glen Macnow, along with on-air partner Ray Didinger have combined the two to create a can’t miss event for fans of sports movies like Miracle, Remember the Titans and of course Rocky. On Tuesday July 18, from 6-to-9 p.m. the duo will host ‘Sports Movie Night’ at the National Liberty Museum. Joining them on stage will be local legens Phil Martelli, Merrill Reese, Brian Propp and Bernie Parent.
“I really respect the charity because it trains young people to help themselves and their community,” Macnow said of NLM’s education and outreach programs, the beneficiary of the proceeds. “I chose the movies to respect the museum’s mission of honoring heroes. So Ray and I picked movies about overcoming adversity. We will show highlights of 8-or-8 classics, the greatest scenes from the greatest sorts movies.”
The speakers — and Macnow and Didinger — will take questions and meet and greet fellow sports movie fans. There will also be a auction on classic sports memorabilia.
Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at libertymuseum.com.
