Stabbed man heads to the hospital, dies during a hit-and-run

After being stabbed, a victim identified as Karon Underwood, 36, was killed by a hit-and-run driver while walking to the hospital.

It was reported that Underwood was struck by a car at around at 10:20 p.m. Monday. ABC reports that he was found at Broad Street just south of Indiana Avenue. Underwood was within blocks of the hospital. According to eyewitness testimony, a first driver saw Underwood and avoided him, before a second vehicle attempted to swerve to avoid Underwood, making impact nonetheless.

It was reported that both cars fled the scene where the victim was pronounced dead.

Underwood was the father of five children, ranging in age from 2 to 13.

No other people were hurt and the incident remains under investigation.

Underwood’s aunts, Tanya Johnson and Lorene McKnight, spoke to ABC about the death of their nephew. They said it is their duty to get justice for their family.

“We won’t let the kids forget; we will always make sure they know who he is,” McKnight said to ABC.

Johnson told them that, “You’re four blocks away from the hospital, and you couldn’t stop? The fire station is right around the corner. Right around the corner. That’s pain right there nobody wants.”

A witness came forward to Philly PD, reportedly providing police with a potential lead to help find the driver.

“We did find one witness that stated the vehicle kept going and stated that it was a silver vehicle,” Captain Mark Overwise of the Accident Investigation Division told ABC.

McKnight has a message for the driver, “You’re not going to be able to sleep at night, you’re not going to have any peace. I pray to my God that he make you so uncomfortable that you will turn yourself in.”

Overwise said, “There is still time to do the right thing,” adding, “Not sure what you hit, and there is damage to your car, and you were in the area at the time? There is still time to do the right thing and turn yourself in.”

If you or someone you know has any information about this crime, you are urged to call Philly PD at 215-685-3180.
