A North Philadelphia alternative school was briefly placed on lockdown Wednesday morning when a teenage boy allegedly stabbed a classmate with a pair of scissors, authorities said.

The incident happened at around 9:15 a.m. at Philadelphia Learning Academy-North, which houses Community Council Learning Academy, a program for students facing educational or behavioral challenges. The school is located on Front Street, near Hunting Park Avenue, in the Feltonville neighborhood.

School District of Philadelphia and Philadelphia Police Department officials said the victim, a 13-year-old boy, did not need to be hospitalized and was treated for “superficial” wounds by paramedics who responded to the scene.

Police said a 14-year-old boy was taken into custody. PLA-North was placed on lockdown protocols for about 15 minutes, according to a school district spokesperson.

“Philadelphia Police are working closely with the Office of School Safety, District leaders, and the parents of the students to investigate and understand all of the circumstances surrounding this incident,” the district said in a statement.
