STAY GROUNDED

LeSean McCoy is not the type of guy to lobby for more carries. Or ask for an increased role. The electric running back knows all about Andy Reid’s pass-first philosophy. And McCoy trusts it completely.

“It is our style. The pie is so big that everybody should get a share,” McCoy said Thursday. “Guys can make excuses and say we should run the ball more — but whatever, we got to go out and play.”

McCoy (1,080 rushing yards, 592 receiving) has been the unsung hero driving the Eagles’ offense. He’s been a force in the screen game while shedding the notion that he can’t pick up the blitz on passing downs.

“The key to the game is us being on all cylinders,” McCoy said. “And the biggest key is keeping the hits off Mike [Vick].”

And running the ball would go a long way toward keeping Vick clean. Especially against a Packers defense that is No. 18 vs. the run. That, and scoring some points on the opening drive.

“That’s big, kind of get off on the right foot early in the game,” McCoy said. “Playing physical, maybe run the ball at them a little bit, take some shots — kind of playing our usual ball but just playing our ball. I think lately we haven’t been playing our type of offense.”

That’s true. The NFC’s top-ranked offense has been held to just 27 points and 575 total yards in back-to-back losses (granted, the Dallas game was played mostly with backups) to close the season. Still, what seems to be the problem?

“We haven’t been focused,” McCoy said. “We have dead periods. We get three-and-outs. Sacks. Penalties. Lately, we’re just not playing our ball. … This week, we know what’s at risk.?Everybody’s fired up.”
