10 observations from the Eagles' win over the Rams

Posted

The Linc shook like the team had just won a playoff victory, and the Eagles matched the noise with a statement win that had a little of everything. From Jordan Davis’ jaw-dropping field-goal block to Jalen Hurts’ surgical, 91-yard game-winner, this 33–26 takedown of the Rams was as gritty as it was electric. Here’s what stood out, player by player, and what fans can expect moving forward.

The Players

Jalen Hurts

When it mattered most, Hurts took the wheel. Down late, he pieced together a 17-play, 91-yard march that drained the clock and broke the Rams’ will. It opened with a fearless 25-yard rope to A.J. Brown on 3rd-and-10 and ended with a calm 4-yard dart to DeVonta Smith for the lead with under two minutes left. The two-point try failed, but Hurts had already authored the night’s defining drive. He finished 21-of-32 for 226 yards and three touchdowns, plus 40 yards and a rushing TD that showcased his trademark toughness. Have the training wheels been removed from the offense?

A.J. Brown

Brown’s fingerprints were all over the winning drive. That 25-yard climb-the-ladder grab cracked L.A.’s coverage shell and set the tone for the finish. He closed with six catches for 109 yards and a touchdown, every one of them a body blow that kept the Rams on their heels. AJ could be set to go on a run!

DeVonta Smith

Quiet for much of the night, Smith saved his strike for the moment that mattered. A pristine 4-yard route, soft hands, toe drag, ballgame. Before that, he worked on the underneath zones, providing Hurts with the steady outlets the plan required. Eight receptions, 60 yards, one dagger. Smitty is known for the Dagger, and he plays like one every week.

Dallas Goedert

In the third quarter, the offense finally found its rhythm, and Goedert lit the fuse. Hurts found him streaking for a 33-yard touchdown over the middle, exploiting a seam the Rams never patched. One big play, total momentum shift. Dallas’s presence should keep the offense humming and be a vertical spark when needed.

Saquon Barkley

Last year, he gashed this defense for 460 yards in two games. This time, the Rams swarmed as if it were a personal affront. Barkley managed just 13 yards on seven first-half carries, every attempt met by a wall of quick, angry tacklers. Every run felt like a street fight with two or three helmets waiting at the line. His breakout game is coming; he will not stay boxed in for long.

The O-Line Shuffle

Early on, Lane left injured and was replaced by Matt Pryor, and Dickerson didn’t look quite right, laboring through sets and giving up ground. The depth was an issue early, and the protection wobbled until Johnson slid in at right tackle, replacing Matt Pryor, during the third quarter, and restoring stability. Hopefully Lane is back on Sunday.

Zack Baun

The linebacker’s eyes told the story. He read Matthew Stafford’s glance and jumped the middle throw, setting up a nine-play, 38-yard drive capped by Hurts’ 1-yard plunge. He provided the first big swing of the game. Baun is a matchup nightmare for opposing defensive coaches and a momentum thief!

Jordan Davis

The play of the game belonged to the biggest man on the field. As time expired in the game, Davis exploded through the gap, stretched every inch of his 6–6 frame, and swatted a 44-yard field-goal attempt like it was a Nerf ball. Before the Rams could even react, he tracked the ricochet, scooped it clean, and rumbled 63 yards to the end zone — part freight train, part sprinter. It wasn’t just a block; it was a theft that sent the Linc into a roar.

A defensive tackle turning special-teams chaos into six points is the stuff of highlight loops, and Davis made it look inevitable. The league is not ready for Jordan Davis 2.0. He is a game breaker and wrecker.

Adoree’ and Quinyon

They both had five tackles and were steady on the perimeter. Quinyon, rarely tested, erased his side of the field. Adoree played with a veteran's saviness until leaving the game with a groin injury in the fourth quarter. Jakorian Bennett came in for Jackson when the Eagles were in nickel and Cooper DeJean when they were in base, for the remainder of the game. It will be interesting to see how the Eagles move forward if Jackson can not go on Sunday.

Nick Sirianni

Sirianni loves his riverboat moments, but the 4th-and-7 gamble from midfield after the defense had just delivered a fourth-down stop felt forced. Hurts’ deep shot to Brown fell incomplete, and momentum sagged. It’s the brand, but this one felt too risky, given the game flow.

As always, thank you for reading!
