BREAKING: Eagles WR Johnny Wilson set to miss 2025 season

Posted

After suffering a nasty injury during Tuesday's practice, Eagles wideout Johnny Wilson will miss the entirety of the 2025 season, it has now been revealed. Jeff McLane broke the news on Thursday that the second-year wideout will be undergoing surgery on both his knee and ankle following the injury.

This is obviously heartbreaking for Wilson. The second-year wideout looked excellent in the preseason opener, putting up 73 yards, and looked set to build on his rookie campaign where he caught 5 passes for 38 yards and a touchdown. The big-bodied receiver is a matchup nightmare and is developing into a valuable piece behind the dynamic duo of A.J Brown and DeVonta Smith.

The Eagles actually traded for John Metchie III days before this injury, which will obviously offset his absence with a proven NFL player who can start in a pinch if needed. The team also has underdog Darius Cooper, and former draft pick Ainias Smith in their ranks should they need additional depth.

The main thing here is that Wilson can make a quick and full recovery. He's clearly got a lot of NFL upside and was beginning to catch his stride at just the right time.

The Eagles will begin their roster cuts over the weekend, with the deadline to get to 53 from 90 set for Tuesday August 26th.
