This spring, prepare for a world premiere that cuts deep into family, community and resilient bonds. InterAct Theatre Company presents Seng's Hair Salon, a new play commissioned as part of the acclaimed Philly Cycle and written by Saymoukda Duangphouxay Vongsay.
This South Philly staple tells a story where three generations of family must face a chilling new reality. When a mysterious and fatal epidemic begins to haunt their shop, Seng’s Hair Salon transforms from a place of beauty and community into a crucible. Family members clash over how best to care for their matriarch, exposing deep-seated tensions while navigating a national and local cultural political landscape.
With Lao, Vietnamese and Cambodian characters at its core, the play explores the fight for greater political representation and community advocacy. "Seng's Hair Salon" is a community effort, produced in partnership with Laos in the House, VietLead, and the Cambodian Association of Greater Philadelphia.
The talented cast, directed by Chongren Fan, includes Lydia Gaston as Seng and Bi Jean Ngo as Vimala. The production also features a fascinating character known as "THE ENTITY," played by Jungwoong Kim. The world of the play is brought to life by a team including Scenic Designer Melpomene Katakalos and Costume Designer Ariel Wang.
