The ongoing restoration of the historic Cobbs Creek Golf Course in West Philadelphia is getting additional support through a new partnership with Comcast.

The company has joined the Cobbs Creek Foundation as a founding partner, with plans to bring new technology and educational resources to the 350-acre campus, including an artificial intelligence curriculum for Philadelphia students.

The partnership, announced Wednesday, will also support the redevelopment of the golf course and provide technology for several facilities on the property.

“Cobbs Creek is a terrific example of what can happen when people come together with the ambition to do something special for our great city,” Comcast Corporation Chairman Brian Roberts said in a statement. “This project will restore an important part of Philadelphia’s history, bring people together through sports, and create opportunities for young people to learn and explore new technologies.”

New AI curriculum for students

One of the main components of the partnership is a new AI curriculum at the Smilow Woodland TGR Learning Lab, developed in collaboration with TGR Foundation.

The program will introduce students to AI and emerging technologies through hands-on learning, with a focus on critical thinking, problem-solving and responsible use of the technology.

The curriculum is expected to launch as a pilot program in Philadelphia this fall before expanding to TGR Learning Labs nationwide in 2027.

The Smilow Woodland TGR Learning Lab opened in 2025 and has already served more than 12,000 students through free educational programming.

“We are grateful to Comcast for investing in the young people we serve through our TGR Learning Labs, giving them opportunities to explore artificial intelligence with confidence and discover where it can take them,” TGR Foundation CEO Hrag Hamalian said in a statement.

Comcast has also helped establish a co-working and lounge space at the learning lab, equipped with laptops and soundproof pods. The recently opened space allows parents and caregivers to work or access programming while their children attend classes.

Technology upgrades and golf course restoration

Comcast Business will provide fiber-based internet connectivity, managed WiFi and video technology across the campus, including the learning lab, Lincoln Financial Center, golf course facilities and the planned Cobbs Creek Heritage Center.

The Heritage Center, a public museum celebrating the golf course's history, will feature digital and interactive exhibits powered by Comcast technology. The company will also support the restoration of the golf course and provide public service advertising to promote the foundation's work.

The partnership comes as the Cobbs Creek Foundation continues its redevelopment of the historic property.

Earlier this year, the campus opened a new nine-hole, par-3 golf course and the Lincoln Financial Center, which includes a driving range, restaurant, pro shop and event space.

Restoration of the historic 18-hole Olde Course is underway, with an opening planned for 2027. The redesigned Karakung Course and a new nine-hole course designed by Gil Hanse are expected to follow in 2028.

Comcast will serve as the foundation's exclusive founding partner for technology and innovation.
