Coming off two excellent starts on the Philadelphia Phillies' most recent homestand, Cristopher Sanchez has been named National League player of the week.
Sanchez joined Kansas City Royals' shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., as recipients for the past week.
In his first outing of the past week, the Phillies' ace took on the Athletics at Citizens Bank Park. Sanchez was looking to build off a strong outing against the Giants from a start prior.
In that game, he allowed two first inning runs before settling in.
Against the A's, Sanchez wasted no time diving right into this game.
Building his attack by using his elite changeup, the Phillies' lefty shut down the Athletics with relative easy. 10 strikeouts accompanied eight scoreless innings of baseball.
Some early offense gave the Phillies a comfortable lead and the Cy Young runner up took it from there.
Carrying a 13.2 scoreless inning streak into his Sunday outing against the Colorado Rockies, Sanchez picked up where he left off.
This time, seven scoreless innings would ring out from Philly's top arm. Sanchez mowed down the Rockies, dealing with traffic on the bases in just two innings. However, he kept a recently productive Rockies' offense off the scoreboard.
Sanchez finished his final outing on the homestand with seven scoreless, striking out seven, and only allowed six hits.
With the conclusion of his start, Sanchez carries a 20.2 scoreless innings streak with him on the road.
He will start against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday afternoon with a chance to add to his career best mark.
