Officers tracked down a driver after he allegedly struck a pedestrian and fled the scene Wednesday evening in Wissinoming, police said.
The victim, a 30-year-old man, suffered a severe head injury and was rushed to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in critical condition, according to authorities.
Investigators said the crash happened just before 5:45 p.m. Feb. 4 at the corner of Torresdale Avenue and Devereaux Street. Detectives believe the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado was turning right on Devereaux when he hit the man walking across Torresdale.
Witnesses provided information that pointed officers to the truck, and they apprehended the suspect, 49-year-old Rodney James, outside his house a short time later, law enforcement officials said.
James has been charged with aggravated assault, causing an accident involving injury or death while unlicensed and DUI. He is currently being held on $500,000 bail, of which he must post 10% to be released, according to court records. An initial preliminary hearing date has been scheduled for Feb. 20.
