Ahead of their series with the Athletics, the Philadelphia Phillies made a move in their bullpen.
After missing the past several weeks with an oblique injury, the club activated closer Jhoan Duran from the Injured List.
Before his injury, Duran was one of the few bright spots in an overall struggling bullpen. Despite his absence, he still leads the club with five saves on the season.
Duran has appeared in seven ballgames thus far in 2026, pitching to a 1.35 earned run average.
Editor's Note: In a corresponding move, the Phillies traded Trevor Richards to the Chicago White Sox for cash considerations.
Richards pitched in two ballgames, tossing 4.1 innings and allowing just one earned run. He had recent been called up to the majors after a strong start in Triple-A Lehigh Valley. There, Richards served as the IronPigs' closer.
Three saves and a 1.93 earned run average helped earn him a promotion back to the majors. If the Phillies are in a pinch again for a right-handed reliever, he will likely be the first man up.
With the return of their closer, the Phillies' bullpen can finally function the way it was constructed to.
Brad Keller has filled in for the Phillies in the closer role, adding two saves to the team's total this season. While Keller was brought to Philly to pitch in big spots, the plan was for those leverage situations to take place in the seventh or eighth.
This also slides back Jose Alvarado, Orion Kerkering and Tanner Banks to pitching in the sixth, seventh and eighth as well.
