The Eagles’ initial 53-man roster features several questionable decision. Here are five takeaways from the big reveal.

The Philadelphia Eagles officially released their initial 53-man roster Sunday night, and it has created quite an uproar. Philly has altered their approach to several positions which has left many people curious as to what lies ahead. Until Howie Roseman makes his official statement on the state of the Eagles roster, here are five takeaways from their initial 53-man roster.

The QB factory is open for Business

The Eagles never keep more than 3 QBs on their roster. It’s just never been a thing. They’ve used the emergency QB slot and the practice squad to their advantage in years past but what makes this season so different? I think Howie is still testing the market for both Tanner McKee and Andy Dalton. Neither QB impressed during the preseason and while many believed that Miami would be the destination for either, I believe Roseman has a trick up his sleeve.

I do believe that there is a stronger chance that the Eagles enter the season with three quarterbacks as opposed to four. Cole Payton will stay with the team as his potential definitely raised some eyebrows within the front office and coaching staff. Tanner McKee may have overstayed his welcome at this long but Dalton could be the more appealing QB to opposing teams.

The Loaded Front

The Eagles have always had a good offensive line group. It’s just always been their thing as long as Stoutland was around. With Jeff Stoutland now gone, Chris Kuper may actually carry the torch and expand on it. Philadelphia has a very, very deep offensive line group in both personnel and talent.

Philadelphia's second string offensive linemen could be starters on other teams which is a very comforting thought. Players like Markel Bell can succeed Lane Johnson next season and I strongly believe Willie Lampkin will crack the starting lineup at some point this season. Both players impressed, as did other backups.

The Safety is Off

Philadelphia only has three real safeties on their initial 53-man roster. Marcus Epps, Andrew Mukuba, and Michael Carter II are listed as their current rotation at safety. We could expect DeJean to rotate in there throughout various points in the season but even then, it doesn’t feel safe.

Mukuba missed some of the season in 2025 and if that were to happen again then the safety room will be more than a huge weakness for the defense. Something has to be in the works there.

Vic’s cold truth

I think we all need to learn a valuable lesson from this offseason. Vic Fangio always tells the truth. We should’ve listened to him when he said that Uar Bernard and Josh Weru were light-years away. Both Bernard and Weru were waived on Sunday night and it shocked everyone except for Vic Fangio. It’s time to treasure Fangio while he’s still here.

Tight end’s group a bit tight?

The Eagles only have Dallas Goedert, Eli Stowers, E.J. Jenkins and Johnny Mundt listed on their initial roster. With the rumors swirling of Eli Stowers’ tough summer, I would fully expect them to take a chance on either a recently released rookie or sign a veteran to help hold down the fort. There are plenty of intriguing names out there but one does stand out above the rest. Should the Eagles entertain the idea of reuniting with Zach Ertz? I think that would be a solid move for them this season.
