The Philadelphia Eagles flew south for a Week 12 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The Eagles surged to a 21-point lead, but the Cowboys seized the momentum, flipped the game on its head, and prevailed in a 24-21 comeback win over their NFC East rival. It is a bitter loss to swallow for the Kelly Green-clad Birds, who last wore this uniform on the road in a loss to the eventual 1995 Divisional Round loss to the very same Dallas franchise the Eagles battled on Sunday. Let’s dive into the recap as Dallas wins its first game against Philadelphia since December 2023.
In the first quarter, Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown linked up on a 16-yard touchdown catch to put the first points on the board at Jerry World. Jake Elliott converted the point after touchdown (PAT) for a 7-0 Eagles lead. Philadelphia’s defense feasted on early mistakes and forced a punt from Dak Prescott’s crew on Dallas’ second possession.
Hurts continued to find Brown on the Eagles' second drive, which was extended by a roughing the punter penalty on Braden Mann. Brown made a spectacular one-handed catch and touched the orange pylon for a score, but the play was overturned and called incomplete after the offical's review. On the following snap, Hurts called his own number and ran the ball into the painted area for a 13-0 Eagles lead. Elliott once again smashed the football through the uprights to tack another point onto the board for Philly, 14-0.
Dallas running back/wide receiver KaVontae Turpin fumbled on the ensuing possession, and the Eagles took advantage as the first quarter gave way to the second frame. Hurts switched receivers on this drive, spotting DaVonta Smith on a pair of catches (41 yards and 10 yards) before a Brotherly Shove touchdown extending the lead to 20-0. Elliott stepped up once again for a 21-0 lead.
Reed Blankenship picked off Prescott on the next possession, but the Eagles' offense was stopped and forced to punt. The Cowboys finally put together a cohesive series of plays, resulting in a 1-yard touchdown catch by George Pickens to eat into the Philly lead at 21-7 following the PAT.
Philly received the second-half kickoff, but the Eagles' offense was sidetracked once again. Nakobe Dean stopped Dallas’ next drive in its tracks to get the ball back for Philadelphia. However, it was another quick series and a punt for the Eagles offense as they gave the ball back to Dallas. The Cowboys appeared to position themselves to take advantage, but Brandon Aubrey missed a 51-yard field goal attempt to keep the home squad down two scores.
Another Eagles series went three plays and out, resulting in another wasted opportunity to put the four-win Cowboys away. Dallas needed seven plays to march down the field, heavily aided by a 48-yard catch by CeeDee Lamb. Prascott found Brevyn Spann-Ford in the end zone for a four-yard TD catch to bring the Cowboys within one score, 21-14, following the PAT.
Philadelphia couldn’t keep the yellow laundry off the field with multiple penalties to start the fourth quarter that placed the Eagles in a 1st-and-25 situation. Hurts was undeterred, finding Brown on a 14-yard pass, followed by a seven-yard toss to Dallas Goedert. But Elliott missed the 58-yard kick wide right, giving Dallas an opportunity for a game-tying drive with 13 minutes left in regulation.
It took all of three plays for the Cowboys to erase the Eagles' lead, following a 43-yard pass to Pickens and an eight-yard touchdown trot by Prescott for a 21-21 contest after the successful PAT.
With the game tied and 11:40 remaining, Philly’s listless second-half offense took the field looking for a statement drive against a big divisional rival. Hurts navigated the Eagles across the midfield stripe, but a Saquon Barkley fumble gave the ball back to Dallas, which blew the roof off AT&T Stadium.
Prescott was unable to seize the momentum, but Philadelphia’s offense never regained it. With the clock winding down, Aubrey booted a game-winning 42-yard field goal to secure a 24-21 comeback win for Jerry Jones’ squad from Dallas.
The Eagles will return to the nest to host the Chicago Bears for a Week 13 matchup. Chicago enters the game on a four-game winning streak and has celebrated victories in eight of their last nine outings. Philadelphia will go shopping for its ninth win once again on Friday afternoon with a 3 p.m. kickoff in South Philadelphia .
