Earlier in the week, the Indianapolis Colts released veteran cornerback Kenny Moore II after a nine-year run with the team.
Now a free agent, could the Eagles entertain a potential deal to bring in the veteran who has connections to the team?
Moore II linked to Eagles’ players and coaching staff
Moore II has expressed his praise for Eagles’ head coach Nick Sirianni after spending time with the head coach in Indianapolis when Sirianni was the offensive coordinator from 2018-20.
He also attended DeVonta Smith’s softball charity event last year in Allentown and is good friends with former Eagle cornerback Isaiah Rodgers as the two were teammates in Indianapolis.
Moore II was asked about Sirianni at the softball event and was open to sharing his thoughts.
“He’s very competitive, so whenever he first came over to Indy, he talked a lot of trash, and it was really fun to get to know a coach that was so competitive and loves ball. I knew he was gonna be a winner, so to see how he’s kind of transitioned over in Philadelphia and obviously winning a Super Bowl, that’s pretty cool to see as a player.”
Could it be a fit for the Eagles?
Interestingly enough, ESPN’s Adam Schefter labeled Moore II as a safety in his tweet announcing his release which raised some eye brows.
According to PFF, Moore II has played just 58 snaps at free safety in his entire career.
Unless Moore is making the switch to safety, adding the veteran to the mix would make the cornerback room even more crowded. Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, Riq Woolen are the starting three for the team with Jonathan Jones, Kelee Ringo, Mac McWilliams, Ambry Thomas and Tariq Castro-Fields all in the mix to provide depth.
The team sees too much value in DeJean at the nickel cornerback position to move him to safety full time.
Micahel Carter II is reportedly making the switch to safety, joining a group spearheaded by Andrew Mukuba along with veteran Marcus Epps, this year’s seventh round pick Cole Wisniewski, J.T. Gray and Andre’ Sam.
The Eagles were interested in the former Pro Bowler's services a few years ago and are always in search of secondary depth. With the connection Moore II has with Sirianni it could be a sensible move for Howie Roseman to make so long as Moore II is not commanding a high price tag and they have a plan to jostle some players around in the safety room.
