Eagles OTAs Update: Makai Lemon injured, Mannion an 'evil genius'

Updates from the Eagles OTA's on Tuesday. Makai Lemon injury update as well as a huge compliment for Sean Mannion.

The Philadelphia Eagles were back on the field for another OTA session on Tuesday. It is the second and final session that will be open to the media as the team gears up for Training Camp, which starts in mid-July.

Here are some key updates from Tuesday’s session and what players had to say after the voluntary practice.

WR update

The biggest storyline in the OTA session — rookie wideout Makai Lemon, who was seen not practicing and walking around with a black leg sleeve on his right leg, not the best way to celebrate your 22nd birthday.

At least from the first OTA session open to the media last week, Lemon was not wearing anything on his leg.

It was reported that the rookie is dealing with a soft-tissue injury.

Dontayvion Wicks was in attendance on Tuesday after being absent at last week’s voluntary group of practices. Wicks was acquired in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick and then signed a one-year extension for $12.5 million that keeps him under contract through 2027.

Wicks figures to slot in as the third wide receiver on the depth chart and brings his experience playing in an offense that Sean Mannion was a part of in Green Bay.

DeVonta Smith spoke with the media after the practice and he was asked a lot of questions about being the new number one wide receiver on the depth chart.

“I’m just going out there doing my job. Regardless however you want to look at it, 1-2-3-4, it doesn’t matter. We all have jobs that we have to go out and do,” Smith said.

Smith dismissed nearly every question regarding A.J. Brown’s trade but did say that he will miss the brotherhood the two had.

“You look back, we had a great time. The things we accomplished on and off the field. You always cherish those moments.”

High praise from Jordan Mailata

After the OTA practice, Jordan Mailata had some high praise for new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.

Mannion will have a microscope on him and how this offense will look from the opening snap of the regular season. Fair or not, he will need to prove that his new offensive philosophy will be a success rather quickly.

Dalton taking more second team reps

One of the bigger surprises last week was seeing veteran quarterback Andy Dalton taking the bulk of the second team reps last week. That trend continued on Tuesday according to reports.

The 14-year vet struggled last week, but had a better showing in his second go around in front of the media, connecting on a two-yard touchdown pass to Hollywood Brown. Of course, it’s still early, but the fact Dalton is getting the majority of the snaps with the second team offense opposed to Tanner McKee will be something to monitor moving forward this summer.

Riq Woolen had a nice day

Woolen has been solid so far per reports during the two sessions that were open.

The athletic cornerback is expected to play opposite of Quinyon Mitchell and with his size and athleticism, he could be in store for a big year with the Eagles who signed the former Super Bowl winning defensive back this offseason.

The Eagles have a day off on Wednesday before wrapping up their OTA session on Thursday before mandatory minicamp takes place on June 9-10.
