The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, 20-17, in their first road test of the 2025 season. Jalen Hurts was not phased by this trip inside GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium as he efficiently guided the offense down the field to position kicker Jake Elliott to add early points on the scoreboard. Meanwhile, the Birds’ defense intercepted Patrick Mahomes, just as they did during their win at Super Bowl LIX, to provide the offense with a short field to secure the win in Week 2.
Eagles Take First Quarter Lead

Philly and Kansas City traded punts for the majority of the first quarter. The Chiefs had the first opportunity to unlock the scoreboard, but kicker Harrison Butker booted the 58-yard field goal wide to keep the game scoreless.
The Eagles changed FOX's scorebug first following a 9-play, 52-yard drive that ended in the painted “CHIEFS” end zone. Saquon Barkley punctuated a methodical drive with a 13-yard touchdown run, giving the Eagles a 7-0 lead.
Chiefs Punch Back in Second Quarter

Kansas City responded in the second quarter by scoring a field goal on a 9-play, 31-yard drive that resulted in a 56-yard field goal from Butker for a 7-3 score.
The Eagles punted the ball away after amassing 15 yards on the resulting drive. QB Patrick Mahomes carved up the Eagles' defense on a 12-play, 69-yard touchdown drive to give the Chiefs a 10-7 lead with a little more than two minutes remaining before halftime. Mahomes scrambled to paydirt from 13 yards out to give Kansas City its first lead of the game.
The Eagles’ effective two-minute drill offense moved them into Chiefs territory as the seconds drained off the clock. WR A.J. Brown converted on a first down with a one-handed, 4-yard catch on a 3rd-and-3 to extend the drive shortly after the two-minute warning:

Elliott connected on a 57-yard field goal from the edge of the Chiefs’ midfield logo to tie the ballgame at 10-10 as the players jogged off the field for halftime at Arrowhead Stadium.
Eagles soar to a new lead in Third Quarter

Kansas City received the ball to start the second half, but turned it over on downs at their own 36-yard line after an Andrew Makuba third-down tackle and a Jordan Davis stop for a -1-yard gain. Philadelphia didn’t do much with the change of possession, but added three points from Elliott on a 53-yard field goal for a 13-10 Eagles advantage.
Mahomes marched down the field with throws to Travis Kelce, Hollywood Brown, and Isiah Pacheco to move the ball inside the Philadelphia red zone as the third frame came to a close.
Big turnover seals a road win for the Birds

Kansas City RB Kareem Hunt converted a 4th-and-1 to extend the drive and position with a chance to take the lead from the 6-yard line. Mahomes tossed a pass intended for Kelce, which deflected off the TE’s hands and safely into the waiting arms of Drew Mukuba, ending the scoring threat quickly. Philly’s rookie safety returned the turnover 41 yards downfield to set up the Eagles' offense.

K.C.'s undisciplined facemask penalty put the Eagles in plus territory. Wideout DeVonta Smith made his presence felt with a 28-yard catch that brought him down to the Chiefs' 3-yard line, a play that required patience and timing on his jump. Hurts converted the Brotherly Shove to provide Philadelphia with a two-score advantage at 19-10, with Elliott adding the PAT for a 10-point lead, 20-10, with 7:48 remaining in the game.
Kansas City benefited from a roughing the passer penalty to extend a drive with four minutes to play. Mahomes connected with WR Tyquan Thornton for a 49-yard touchdown after the wide receiver beat Eagles defensive back Quinyon Mitchell in a 1-on-1 matchup to pull the Chiefs closer at 20-17 (following a successful Butker PAT).
Kansas City elected to kick the ball onside, but it was recovered by the Eagles' hands team (A.J. Brown) to give Philadelphia the ball at the Chiefs' 41-yard line. Barkley and Hurts picked up the required first down to burn Andy Reid's timeouts to secure the win.
Philadelphia advances to 2-0 on the early NFL season, while Kansas City drops to 0-2 to start their campaign. The Birds return to the nest for an NFC showdown with the Los Angeles Rams at 1 p.m. ET at Lincoln Financial Field on Sept. 21. Los Angeles advanced to 2-0 following a 33-19 victory over the Tennessee Titans in Week 2.
