3 lessons the Eagles can take from Super Bowl LX

Posted

The Seattle Seahawks claimed their second Lombardi Trophy on Sunday night, dismantling the Patriots in a true defensive showdown. While all eyes will now turn to a crucial offseason, there are some lessons the Eagles can take.

Rigidity is a killer

We all know Drake Maye's strongsuit. His deep ball is arguably the best in the NFL, but with the offensive line being decimated all postseason, there were no adjustments to put Maye in a position to make big plays until it was too late.

This has also been a curse that has haunted Philadelphia's offense. The playcalling became predictable and it stifled one of the most star-studded groups in football in the moments it mattered most. Maye's offensive weapons are hardly world-beating, and the LT spot has been a concern all year. Going up against the best defense in football was always going to be a stretch, and with a second-year QB also struggling under the lights, not making adjustments to either get him making plays on the run or in play-action was a big mistake - one Eagles fans know all too well.

The Eagles made a big change, reshaping their offensive coaching staff over the last few weeks, and if there's ever a lesson to take, it's that failing to adjust scheme/play-calls when things aren't working, and dying on a hill that's being overrun, will usually end in disappointment.

Build in the trenches

This isn't a lesson that's a new concept for Philadelphia, but certainly one that needs reiterating. The Seahawks' DL absolutely ripped New England to shreds. Jeff Stoutland has left the building and we could see as many as three starters replaced in 2026. If the Eagles have lost the anchor of that position group and do not find a way to replace the talent they could well lose in unison, the offense is going to be handcuffed against the best of the best.

Sorting the secondary

The secondaries of both teams played huge roles in Super Bowl LX. Whether it was the masterclass from Christian Gonzalez to keep the Pats in reaching distance, or exceptional play from the likes of Julian Love, the DB's marauded the field from start to finish, making plays and turning heads.

Philly has a big question mark lingering at the CB2 spot and an inability to solve it is going to cause problems in 2026.

The Eagles can't base their whole offseason plan based off of a game they didn't play in, but there are certainly some lessons they can take moving forward in what promises to be a very important offseason.
