Breaking: Eagles trade for WR Dontayvion Wicks

Eagles made a low risk, high reward move in trading for WR Dontayvion Wicks.

The Philadelphia Eagles continue to build on what was once a very questionable group at wide receiver. Outside of AJ Brown and Devonta Smith, the Eagles could not find a consistent flow of production from the group despite the young talent on board. Now they’ve added another weapon to the group in trading for Dontayvion Wicks.

It’s been reported that the Eagles have traded a 5th round pick to the Packers in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick. The Eagles also extended Wicks to a one-year, $12.5 million contract.

Wicks is a former 5th-round pick of the 2023 NFL Draft. Despite being in a talented wide receiving group, Wicks shone in his rookie season and showed flashes of great potential. He finished the year with 581 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns on 39 receptions. Unfortunately, his numbers have declined since which could be due to the inconsistency in his role within the Packers offense.

It’s going to be interesting to see if this trade is either another weapon brought in to compete for a role or Philly’s way of preparing for the departure of A.J. Brown. Nonetheless, the Eagles are making moves to help revive their offense.
