After a closed walk-through on Thursday, the Philadelphia Eagles were back on the practice field Friday for Day 7 of training camp. There is just a little over a week before the team’s first preseason game when they visit the Cincinnati Bengals on August 15 and there is plenty of work to get done from now until then and beyond.
Here are the biggest observations from today's practice:
The two wideouts missed another day of practice. Sirianni said that the team is “working like crazy” to get the rookie wideout back on the field. The head coach didn’t seem to be concerned about the time being missed, referencing how players miss time all throughout the summer and season but still sit in meetings and walk-throughs to prepare.
Center Cam Jurgens reportedly spent time in the medical tent before heading inside during practice per Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane.
Here was the rest of the injury report for Friday:
The All-Pro right tackle has returned to the team and is expected to practice on Friday, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported. Johnson had been away for most of last week with an excused/non-injury designation.
Nick Sirianni expects the anchor of the offensive line to participate today and is not worried about the time Johnson has missed in terms of getting up to speed with the new offense.
“Lane can pick things up very fast,” Sirianni told the media Friday morning. “He’s a phenomenal football player. Not concerned there. You [reporters] get to see a little portion each day but there’s 12 more hours of the day with walk-throughs and meetings so there’s so much more going on then what you see out here.”
Johnson reportedly did not take part in drills and watched on as rookie Markel Bell continued to take reps with the first team offensive line.
With the injuries to Makai Lemon and Devonta Smith, other wide receivers lower in the pecking order have been getting more reps. Darius Cooper and Johnny Wilson made their presence felt during practice today.
Wilson suffered a season-ending injury last year during training camp and looks to bounce back and return to the 53-man roster after playing an underrated role as a blocker during the team's 2024 Super Bowl run.
Cooper, last year's training camp darling, continues to impress and build a connection with Hurts who praised the wide reciever during his interview with the NFL Network earlier in the week.
Friday is also Jalen Hurts’ birthday. The quarterback turns 28 today and has the third-most regular season wins since 2021 with 56 in 78 games only behind Patrick Mahomes (57, 80 games) and Josh Allen (60, 84 games).
After practice, the team sang to their quarterback and he caught up with new 76er Jaylen Brown. Not a bad way to close out Friday's practice.
