The Eagles have just announced three new jersey number updates. While this may seem like your normal statement, there are a few things worth noting.

Firstly, LeGarrette Blount has a number inside the 20's and will now be sporting #29 for the Birds. The last Eagle to wear this of course was Terrence Brooks, but offensively it was DeMarco Murray. The newest workhorse running back will look to associate that number with positive memories for fans moving forward.
This means that Brooks coincidentally has had to change his number and has now shifted to number 24. For those Eagle eyed among you, you'll know this is the number worn by running back Ryan Mathews...or was. Mathews suffered a damaging neck injury at the end of last season and has had a huge cloud looming over his future ever since.
The Eagles can't technically cut Mathews until he's fully healthy...but so far he hasn't taken part in any offseason practice. The Birds have also drafted one running back and signed another, meaning his place on the roster is in severe jeopardy. Could Brooks snatching that number away from Mathews man that there's another move on the horizon. After all, it's one that's been expected for quite some time.
The (D) means that technically both players can share the number. The rule is that no two players can share a number on the field at the same time, so Brooks and Mathews could both wear the #24 so long as they're not part of the same unit on the field. In a scenario where Mathews is kept by the Eagles, he could still wear his current jersey number.
Ronald Darby picks up Blount's Training Camp number as he joins the Eagles secondary. Luckily there's no controversy surrounding this number. All we need to do now is wait for Darby to pass his physical and the trade to become official after he arrived in Philadelphia late last night.
Well now that's out of the way, its back to looking forward to next week's preseason game!
