After going quiet on day one of the NFL’s legal tampering period for free agency, the Eagles struck gold with their first move of the offseason. It’s being reported that the Eagles have agreed to a one-year, $15 million deal with cornerback Tariq Woolen.
Woolen is coming off a season where he won his first Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks. With the Seahawks having their own hurdles with their own roster, Howie Roseman has swooped in and stolen a key player from the Super Bowl champs.
Quarterbacks already hate throwing toward Quinyon Mitchell, which means that signing Woolen has given them another reason to hesitate, given his good ball skills, size, and speed. The upside to signing him is that he is only 26 years old and Philadelphia can see how he fits in Fangio's scheme and take it from there.
This is a big move for the team after struggling to find a stable option on the opposite side of Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. While Adoree Jackson did find his footing towards the end of season, this move gives the Eagles a bonafide balhawk that can hold his own. The Vic Fangio defense could unlock the kind of high-level production his tape has always hinted at.
